Hip pain can also occur for numerous reasons. Common problems that cause hip pain and that we treat are

  1. Arthritis
  2. Bursitis and Tendonitis
  3. Muscle Strains and Imbalances, Piriformis Syndrome
  4. Hip Impingement
  5. Low Back Issues

Can low back pain really cause hip pain and complications?

Problems in the low back can cause pain to radiate into the hip. This can be because of nerve irritation, or in cases where there are muscular imbalances, compensations, or joint irritation. The presence of these issues can affect our ability to do things well, like walk, run, bend, squat, lift, etc. So it is important to correctly identify the underlying cause of the hip pain, so the right treatment can be implemented.

Can hip pain be fixed with treatment?

Again, the numbers are greatly in your favor, as the majority of patients with hip pain recover fully with Physical Therapy. Even in cases of significant hip arthritis, many patients are able to manage their pain and function well, avoid or put off surgery such as a hip replacement, and return to the activities they enjoy. An important part of what we do is also helping guide our clients in how they can best continue to stay active doing what they love, without re-aggravating or injuring the area.
In more severe cases where surgery is being considered, we are often used to help patients and doctors in deciding if surgery may be needed, as well as in preparing patients for surgery by maximizing their range of motion, strength, and mobility, so it speeds up their recovery afterwards.
